Deficit strutturale italiano: una questione di stime

The article shows how the different methods of estimating the output gap lead to different results in terms of compliance with European constraints. In particular, with estimation methods other than that of the Commission, Italy would have already achieved a balanced budget structure.

Giustizia civile: i divari tra Nord e Mezzogiorno d’Italia

Some indicators of performance of the Italian civil justice system are presented and discussed. Data for 2016, show how in the Southern courts the length of proceedings is notably higher than in the North, because of the backlog that weighs on courts. A performance indicator (clearance rate), however, does not show a divide between North and South. Austerità in Italia: i sacrifici alimentano il debito

Evidence indicates that the tightening of restrictive policies experienced in Italy after 2010/11 did not lead to fiscal consolidation, while they contributed to increase debt-to-GDP ratio by curbing aggregate demand. Particularly, budget cuts occurred in health and education. On the contrary, we argue that expansionary measures may lower the debt ratio by increasing real output.

Quota salari e regime di accumulazione in Italia

During the last decades, there has been a considerable decline in the wage share in both developed and developing countries. This paper provides a theoretical and empirical investigation on the relationship between the redistribution of income in favour of wages and economic growth. The analysis deepens the effects of a change in the wage share on aggregate demand in Italy. The policy conclusions of the paper question the effectiveness of the current wage moderation strategies, especially implemented in Italy, suggesting the adoption of redistributive policies aiming at stimulating the growth of the economic system.
